Vigil tonight to honor New Meadows couple killed Saturday
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The small town of New Meadows is grieving the loss of two pillars of their community tonight. Rory and Sara Mehen were shot and killed Saturday in the hotel they owned and operated, the Hartland Inn.
The small town of New Meadows is feeling their loss deeply. The couple was a staple in the community as reflected in the comment we received from the Mayor of New Meadows, Julie Good:
"The City of New Meadows suffered a terrible loss when Rory and Sara Mehen were killed by a non-local shooter at the historic Hartland Inn on Saturday, October 1st, 2022.
Rory and Sara were dedicated to supporting the community and gave of their time, resources and energy on projects that will benefit the youth of the community for years to come.
Last year, in one event, they raised $15,000 for the local skate park project. A second fundraiser was planned for this Saturday. That event has been postponed.
Their kindness and generosity was felt by everyone who met them and their death has left a huge hole in all our hearts.
As a small community, with neighbors who are our dearest friends, this event has impacted us greatly. There are no words to describe the shock and grief we are experiencing.
We will be holding the candlelight vigil tonight and other events in the near future to provide an opportunity for the community to grieve and process thru the long-term effects of this tragedy."
The Vigil will be held tonight at 7:30 in Dorsey Warr memorial park in New Meadows.
